For some reason, the arts and fine dining don't seem to mix in this city. The theater district has long been known for sub-par cuisine in New York, and the Lincoln Center area has only recently begun to show signs of culinary life, with long-time gems like Picholine getting a little company from restaurants like Sapphire. A newcomer to the neighborhood, Sapphire may not be the last word in Indian cuisine, but the food is good enough and the atmosphere is attractive enough to advance the discussion.

The extensive menu includes the usual hit parade of samosas, curries, tandoori treats and mulligatawny soup, but it also includes some sleepers like Chutney Idli, a small cake of steamed lentil and rice flour topped with coconut curry. In terms of interior design, Sapphire has a pleasingly understated opulence, with ornately carved Moghul-period wooden doors and windows, brought over from Rajastan, and embroidered panels of Jodhpur silk hung from the ceiling like small banners. Sapphire is truly a jewel of a restaurant.

Chicken Tikka Masala—Tandoori chicken tikka simmered in mild creamy tomato sauces
Sapphire Mixed Grill—Assortment of chicken, lamb and seafood
Lamb Chops—A Sapphire specialty
Shrimp Amotik—Shrimp cooked in an onion, red chili, tamarind and vinegar base sauce (sour-hot curry)
Dal Sapphire—Assortment of lentils cooked overnight on a slow fire seasoned with herbs and spices
Ordered to go and the Chicken Masala was excellent. COuld have been more generous with the Pan. Just enough for one in the order.

Generally good food. I found the chicken tikka masala to be too sweet but the the lamb saag was great with a nice spicy kick. I do wish they had an option to let you choose how spicy you want your food.

A grand total of 6 pieces of chicken in the Chicken Tikka Masala for how much $?? CTM was a little too sweet, Saag Paneer has some kick! An unexpected but good thing. Would order from here again mainly because of dearth of good Indian restaurants in my delivery area on Seamless.

most terrible service i have ever encountered in NY. food took 2 hours to arrive, they kept placing me on hold, had no idea what they were doing and the food came completely cold.

The Chicken Kali Mirch was outstanding. For anyone who likes spicy curry, its something you do not want to miss.

One of my go to spots. Timely delivery and high quality ingredients. Chicken Tikka is terrific.

They are very nasty! Service is snooty and they get the orders mixed up. Too expensive. Don't bother.

I have no idea how the lamb rogan josh can be a most popular item. This item was on the verge of uneatible. Its really sad if this is one of their best items. I also ordered some onion bhajia, it was like biting into a block of oil. I'm indian and this is terrible food. I'm not even going to include the delivery time which was double the estimated time, this rating is purely based on the food.

This is absolutely delicious! As good as Tamarind. Very fresh and fast delivery. Note that the Vindaloo's are almost too spicey to eat...and we love spicey food.
